The project will review Ireland’s obligations in relation to the Convention on Biological Diversity and the EU Biodiversity strategy. It will investigate current needs and priorities for biodiversity protection and the adequacy of existing funding. It will examine a range of options, not just of increased direct funding, but to provide for a higher level of biodiversity awareness in government policy, better integration of biodiversity policy between departments, opportunities for market-based incentives and opportunities to coordinate or leverage existing funding in coordination with the private sector or NGOs. Consultation with government departments and other bodies will be an important element of the work.

This post may be appointed at Research Scientist, UCD Post Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide the principal contribution to a review of relevant literature
  • Organise meetings with government officials and representatives from private sector and NGOs and record and analyse findings.
  • Contribute substantially to the preparation of a final report and peer reviewed publications
  • Conduct a specified programme of research and scholarship under the supervision and direction of your Principal Investigator.
  • Provide the principal contribution to a review of relevant literature
  • Organise meetings with government officials and representatives from private sector and NGOs and record and analyse findings.
  • Contribute substantially to the preparation of a final report and peer reviewed publications
  • Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research directed by and with the support of and under the supervision of your Principal Investigator.
  • Engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of your research group, School and Institute.
  • Carry out administrative work associated with your programme of research.

 

Salary: €25,000 - €31,270 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience
